Experts: Duke undervaluing assets

Citrus County Property Appraiser’s Office officials, who say they were caught off guard late last year when Duke Energy’s tax payment came in $16 million short of expected, now say they have the experts on hand and are ready to do battle if necessary.

Property Appraiser Geoff Greene announced last week that a first-time appraisal of the local Duke Energy assets and property netted a $1.15 billion increase in taxable value for 2013. If the company agreed to the new assessment, which Greene doesn’t expect, its tax bill would jump from $36 million in 2012 to $54.6 million this year.
