Flat property values hailed as good news after declines

After years of consistent decline, property values have leveled off across most of Alachua County.

Preliminary numbers that the Property Appraiser's Office released last week show that values inched up or down for most local governments.

For county government, values slipped by less than 0.6 percent, from just less than $11.28 billion to $11.21 billion.

For the school district, which is exempt from the second $25,000 homestead exemption, values slightly increased by 0.7 percent from $12.3 billion to $12.4 billion.
